Norwich Tech COOL SCHOOLS

November 25, 2009 - One Response

As I write this post I have blue and green hair!!! (courtesy of the cosmetology students at N.T.H.S. )  We had great turn out for a special Wednesday edition of COOL SCHOOLS!

Cutting edge technology in carpentry was amazing.  I learned about a “C and C Router” that can carve just about anything out of wood if you design it with  a CADD Based program.   Employers are already looking for people who know how to use this technology in their cabinet shops.  It’s one of the newest most efficient tools out there and NTHS has it.

There is so much more to be proud of there. Click on the images below to check out top notch marketing students, great artistry in the school, and find out what engineering has to do with Blue grass Music.

Thanks to the hundreds of students and staff who got up very early to join us for our live reports.

See you Monday On Eyewitness News this Morning, when we’ll announce where the COOL SCHOOLS Tour is headed next.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Mike Hydeck.

“The Sound School” New Haven

October 30, 2009 - Leave a Response

Trained by the coast guard???!!!!  You bet!!!  How COOL is that?  Students at “The Sound School” in New Haven know how to survive in near freezing temperatures in the ocean.  The are trained to use bright orange Coast Guard immersion suits.  Just in case a research boat they are on goes down…they don this protective gear to stay alive in ice cold water for up to 12 hours.

They build underwater robots to be used in Marine research too…all this and a lot more and YES this is a Public School!!!

Thanks to the hundreds if students and parents who joined us before sunrise on the Connecticut coast for our LIVE reports!  Enjoy the other stories and some of the footage from our live shots by clicking on the images below.

We’ll reveal where COOL SCHOOLS is headed next week Monday on Eyewitness News this morning 5-7 am.  Have a great weekend.

Nathan Hale Ray COOL SCHOOL

October 23, 2009 - Leave a Response

The Home of the LITTLE NOISES was pretty loud this morning.  Nathan Hale Ray High school in Moodus was so much fun we got the gym floor rumbling from excitement,  instead the original reason the school got that nickname.  (The building sits on a fault) .

The High Energy traslates in the classroom too!  Just stop in the design class to check out how students use virtual wind tunnel testing as they manufacture a sleek electric car.  Or try visiting Forensic Science where future Crime Scene Investigators use trigonometry to analyze blood spatter to tell which way a victim was walking away from a crime scene.

We have so much more to show you,  so click on the images below to enjoy our stories from NHR H.S. and high lites from our LIVE Pep Rally this morning.   Thank you to the hundreds of students and staff who made it out to celebrate with us starting at 430 this morning.

New Britain H.S. Cool Schools

October 16, 2009 - Leave a Response

Students from the Biggest High School in the state were LOUD and PROUD during our live shot for this weeks COOL SCHOOLS Report!  The Golden Hurricanes Marching Band from New Britain High was a major reason we had such a great time.

But we had so much more to celebrate.  Students built their own solar car, which they race every year at the Texas Motor Speedway.  Have you ever heard of a Firefighting class?  They have one at NBHS.   We have a lot more to show you as well.  Check out the other stories  we did and highlights from our live pep rally this morning by clicking on the images below.

COOL SCHOOLS is Back! CONARD H.S.

October 2, 2009 - Leave a Response

What a great start to our Sophomore season.  Conard H.S. in West Hartford had so much enthusiasm at 4:30 in the morning.   I lost my voice just trying to keep up with the students and staff.

The Jazz band, the select choir, the athletes and so much more I can even begin to list everything.  Check out the video from all stories we did at the school…by clicking on them on wfsb.com.

A recycling program that saved the school 25 thousand dollars in energy costs! The  Unified Theater ensemble pairs students with mental and physical challenges with other students throughout the school for an annual stage production…and there is so much more.

Did you know the Conard population is 40 percent minority?  Diversity is truly their strength!  In fact that had 1000 students taking advanced placement classes last year!  Dozens of Conard’s graduates went into college as a sophomore, because they received so many college credits when they were still in high School!

I hope you enjoyed the broadcast as much as we did. Check out video from our LIVE pep rally we had to celebrate all of the COOL things going on at Conard.

If have a COOL SCHOOL fill out an application on wfsb.com and maybe will take the mobile newsroom to your Campus!

Have a great weekend.

Mike.

LIVE-Cooperative Arts & Humanities HS COOL SCHOOLS

May 29, 2009 - One Response

New Haven’s GOT Talent!!! The jazz band at CAH high is one of the best around. Even their teacher believes they are professional quality, check them out in our web extras below soooo COOL!

One of my favorite stories of the week was about the cooperative effort between John C. Daniels school 8th graders and the Arts and Humanities high school students.  The 8th graders wrote an Mystery Novel about their school, the High School Students turned it into a screen play.  The Juniors and Seniors  shot and edited a movie version of it.  Now some music scholar from nearby Yale university are composing a score for it… How COOL is that? The red carpet premiere is coming up in June.

There are so many talented kids at The Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School in New Haven we could have done 2 full shows there.

But thanks to the internet we can show you some of the things that didn’t make it to live TV this morning.  I hope you enjoy some of our WEB EXTRA’S.  Just click below to see the video.

Highlights: Cooperative Arts, Humanities H.S. Cool School Rally

A special thanks to Michele Wade the Director of Public for helping us with all of the logistics of pulling off a great LIVE and Taped productions. And a big thank you to all the parents who got up super early to bring their kids to school at 4 am.  And last but not least, the principal, teachers, local police and volunteers who joined us this morning.

Have a great weekend.

Mike.
